Game Review
In a tightly contested Bundesliga encounter, Hamburger SV and Borussia Mönchengladbach played out a goalless draw at the Volksparkstadion on Saturday, 17 January 2026. The result was not entirely unexpected given both teams' mid-table standings and recent form, with neither side able to break the deadlock despite several opportunities. The match saw few clear-cut chances, with both defenses holding firm. Borussia Mönchengladbach's Florian Neuhaus (GAP +1.9%) was instrumental in midfield, dictating the pace and attempting to unlock the Hamburger SV defense. On the other hand, Hamburger SV's Franck Honorat (GAP +1.8%) was a constant threat on the wings, trying to create openings for his teammates. Tactically, both teams opted for a cautious approach, focusing on maintaining defensive solidity. Hamburger SV made five substitutions, bringing in Alexander Røssing-Lelesiit, Guilherme Magro Pires Ramos, Giorgi Gocholeishvili, Rayan Philippe, and Robert Glatzel to inject fresh energy into the game. Borussia Mönchengladbach also made four changes, introducing Jens Castrop, Kota Takai, Giovanni Reyna, and Shuto Machino, but neither side could find the decisive goal. The Game Advantage Percentage (GAP) highlighted Joe Scally (GAP +2.2%) as a standout performer for Borussia Mönchengladbach, contributing significantly to their defensive efforts. Meanwhile, Rocco Reitz (GAP -2.2%) and Luca Netz (GAP -2.8%) struggled to make a positive impact, reflecting the challenges faced by the visitors in breaking down a resilient Hamburger SV side. This draw leaves both teams in a similar position in the Bundesliga table, with Hamburger SV and Borussia Mönchengladbach continuing to search for consistency in their performances. The result maintains their mid-table status, but both teams will need to find more cutting edge in attack if they are to climb higher in the standings as the season progresses.

What is GAP?
What is Plus Minus Goals (G±)?
Plus Minus Goals (G±) is the average goal difference per game while the player was on the pitch. A value above 0 indicates that the team rather wins, a value below 0 means his team concedes more goals than they score when the player is on the pitch. As an example, if the player's team is winning 3:1 the goal difference is +2, if the player's team is loosing 0:1, the goal difference is -1. It is a pure metric which is barely adjusted for circumstances to purely show the goal difference.
What is GAP?
GAP (Game Advantage Percentage) shows the percentage gap between a player and the average league player. It answers the question: How much does a player improve or worsen a team's performance? It is based on high level game data with a focus on the impact on the goal difference (G±) from the last 50 games of a player. Besides that, GAP goes further and considers game context by involving data from the player and all other players who are at the same time on the pitch, no matter if teammates or opponents. Football GAP - the individual metric for team players.
